What is the Astoria Woodworkers Collective?

The Astoria Woodworkers Collective exists to provide access to space, tools, and education to cultivate the skill and craft of woodworking in northwestern Queens.

Where is the shop space located?

Our shop is located at 12-10 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, NY 11102.

What tools and equipment does the shop have?

We have an enviable lineup and we upgrade as we grow. As of March 1, 2024, we have the following pieces of equipment:

• Bosch 10” Dual Bevel Gliding Miter Saw

• Grizzly 6” Cabinet Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead

• Grizzly 15” Cabinet Planer with Helical Cutterhead

• Sawstop 30” Professional Cabinet Table Saw

• Grizzly 14” Bandsaw (6” vertical clearance)

• Grizzly Benchtop Drill Press

• Grizzly Combo Belt & Disc Sander

• Jet 20” Lathe

• Router Table & Porter Cable Router

• Rigid Oscillating Edge Belt/Spindle Sander

• Jet Benchtop Mortiser

• Kreg Pocket Hole Machine

• Various smaller pieces and hand tools, include palm sanders, circular saws, Dremel rotary tools, reciprocating saws, trim routers, jig saws, brad nailers, drill and impact drivers, hand planes, hand saws, etc.

How much does it cost?

As a dues-supported organization, we charge annual dues to be a member. We have three tiers of membership available, depending on whether you want to simply support the organization, borrow tools, or want full access to the shop. The Regular Membership includes an invitation to our regular meetings and socials, the Tool Library Membership gives you access to our small-but-growing lending library of tools, and the Shop Access Membership gives you access to schedule time in the wood shop. Annual dues for each level are:

• Tool Library Membership: $150

• Shop Access Membership: $200 plus $13/hour to book shop time

What kind of classes/workshops do you offer?

We try to program a variety of classes geared towards beginner and intermediate woodworkers. Classes range from shoe racks and serving boards to a Danish cord stool. If you have an idea for a class you’d love to attend, or you feel like you’d be a good fit to help us develop classes, send along a message to programming@astoriawoodworkers.org.

In addition to classes, we also offer opportunities to volunteer for community projects. In the past, we’ve built a puppet theatre, a beehive enclosure, and a solar panel structure for a community garden, among other projects. How can I help AWC with its mission?

We exist to make woodworking more accessible in Queens by providing opportunities and resources for aspiring and experienced woodworkers to improve their skills and community.
